Food Allergy Symptoms
The most frequent symptoms in food allergy are:
- skin: itching, red skin or hives
- nose: nose blockade, runny nose or itch
- red and itchy eyes
- digestive system: feeling sick, vomiting, diarrhoea, belly aches and cramps.
The Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS)
Symptoms usually appear immediately after taking the food and they are short-spanned. The patient may notice itch or a tingling feeling in the mouth, swelling of the lips, palate and throat, and sometimes tightness in the throat.
It is often produced after eating fruits and fresh vegetables, and it seems to have increased in the last decade, mainly in patients allergic to pollen.

The severe reaction: anaphylaxis
In severe and extreme cases the patient may experience anaphylaxis (serious allergic reaction):
- respiratory system: wheezing, chest tightness or shortness of breath
- dizzines, blood pressure fall or even loss of consiousness
A special case: Food-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxisis .
Symptoms appear with food intake followed by exercise (2 to 4 hours after eating the food). When both the food and the exercise are independent from each other, there are no symptoms.
